Rear dropout spacing is the distance between the frame’s left and right hub seating faces at the rear axle. The hub’s matching installation width is commonly called O.L.D. (over-locknut dimension). It is not the motor shell width or the total axle length.
| What to check | 135mm quick release | 142 × 12mm thru-axle |
|---|---|---|
| Installation width | 135mm between the matching hub seating faces. | 142mm between the matching hub seating faces. |
| What “12” means | 135mm describes spacing, not axle diameter. Confirm the QR hardware and dropout fit separately. | 12mm is the nominal thru-axle diameter. It does not describe thread pitch or total axle length. |
| Frame identification | Typically has open-ended dropout slots. Check the frame specification to confirm. | Typically has enclosed axle holes; the axle passes through the frame and hub. Check the frame specification to confirm. |
| Fixing method | A quick-release skewer clamps the wheel into the compatible dropouts. | A removable thru-axle secures the hub. Axle length, thread pitch and thread engagement must match the frame. |
| MOVIOL option | Select the 135mm QR motor version, subject to full compatibility confirmation. | Select the 142 × 12mm motor version, subject to full compatibility confirmation. |
Check the bicycle manufacturer’s specification for your exact model and year. A lever alone does not identify a quick-release system: some thru-axles also have levers.
With the rear wheel removed, measure between the correct inner seating faces at the axle position. Do not measure the outside of the frame or the axle from tip to tip. Recessed thru-axle seats can make a simple ruler reading misleading; use the frame specification or ask a bike shop if unsure.
Include the frame model and year, rear dropout photos, axle markings, wheel size, brake type and cassette/freehub details in your enquiry. For a thru-axle, also confirm its length and thread pitch.
A 142 × 12mm motor should not be assumed to fit a 135mm QR frame, or vice versa. A 148mm Boost frame, 141mm QR frame or 130mm frame is a different standard. Do not add spacers, change end caps or spread the frame unless an explicitly approved configuration is supplied.
Do not modify or force frame dropouts to fit a motor. Final compatibility and the exact configuration must be confirmed before ordering.
